Selling as a Conscious, Purpose-Driven Brand: How to Avoid Sounding Too Salesy

Hello, Friend! How are things going in your world and business?! I want to ask you a quick question!

Are you ready? Ok Great!

How do you feel about selling? Does selling feel good to you or does it feel icky? When it’s time to tell folks what you offer, are you excited to do so or do you hem and haw?

If you said that selling feels awkward, annoying, or downright bad, let’s chat for a bit. Let’s reframe our relationship to selling.

If you run a conscious, purpose-driven brand, you know that selling isn't just about pushing products or services onto customers. You likely got into business because you wanted to make a profit while doing some good in the world. Therefore, your approach to marketing doesn’t have to conform to pushy sales tactics that leave you feeling out of alignment with your values.

Instead, focus on building heart-centered relationships with your audience and learn how to sell with confidence.

Here are 5 tips to keep in mind:

  1. Focus on Your Big Why

Instead of just talking about what your product or service does, focus on why it matters. What problem are you solving with your offer? Where, when and how are you adding value to your customers’ lives? How does your offer connect with your brand’s values and purpose? Your audience wants to know as much as they can about your brand’s story. So, tell us the deeper meaning behind your offerings. Yes, I said, “us”! Tell me what you do and where I can find you online so that I can be one of your fans if our values align! When you share your “big why,” your company’s “raison d’etre”, you can help customers connect with your brand on a more emotional level.

2. Be Authentic and Transparent

Customers are increasingly savvy and can likely spot when a brand is being insincere or inauthentic. Instead of trying to hide behind marketing jargon or buzzwords, be transparent about who you are and what you stand for. Don’t make false claims about who you are or what you do! For example, if you’re not an eco-friendly company, please don’t engage in greenwashing! Be honest about your brand's story, your values, and your goals in a way that feels genuine and authentic.

3. Educate!

When appropriate, focus on educating folks about your brand, your offerings, and the problems you solve. By providing valuable information, you can establish yourself as an authority in your niche and build trust with your audience. This, in turn, can lead to more sales over time.

4. Listen to Your Customers

Don't just talk at your customers; listen to them, too. Pay attention to their feedback, questions, and concerns, and use that information to improve your offerings and your messaging. By showing that you care about their needs and opinions, you can build stronger relationships over time.

5. Create a Sense of Community

One of the best ways to sell as a conscious, purpose-driven brand is to create a sense of community around your brand. This can include things like social media groups, online forums, or in-person events. By bringing your customers together and creating a space for them to connect and share their experiences, you can strengthen their connection to your brand and increase the likelihood of repeat sales.

Selling as a conscious, purpose-driven brand doesn't have to be pushy or salesy. By focusing on the why behind your offerings, being authentic and transparent, educating your customers, listening to their feedback, and creating a sense of community, you can find your people, the folks who are excited to support your business!

Remember, it's not just about making a sale; it's about creating lasting heart-centered connections with your people.
